Latest exhibition in upper history room will be on Catalina Z2148

The Old Haa’s latest exhibition is dedicated to remembering the events of 19th January 1942 when Catalina Z2148 crashed in the hills near Arisdale on Yell.

We recently received some items from the family of the late Flying Officer Alexander Helme, who survived the crash.  We felt this would be a great opportunity to share these items with you alongside our existing items.

Local people assisted in the rescue of the survivors following the epic endeavours of Flight Sergeant Lockyer, who managed to reach the nearest house at Arisdale.  To help us tell this story as best as possible, we are requesting the assistance of the Yell community to let us know of anything they have or know about, which would help retell the events.  We hope that locals may well have collected stories, or artefacts which we'd very much like to record and, if possible, to use in our exhibition.   Did your parents or grandparents tell you about what they saw or heard, maybe you know of items retrieved from the crash site which were re-purposed?

Any physical items can be loaned on for the duration of the exhibition, with full accreditation or anonymously; whatever you wish.

We stress that NO further items should be removed from the crash site since it is recognised as a War Memorial.

The exhibition will open for the season on the 6th April.
